Project Description:

I was hired by Aspire Real Estate Solutions LLC, who was looking for a student of Web Programming who could quickly design and public their website. They were working with a web developer who helped them purchase a domain on Squarespace for their site and then ghosted them for months. I completed sketchs and prototypes for them with Figma. I built their website on Squarespace and helped them with an IDX integration.

Reflections:

  • The original developer hired by Aspire had purchased a domain on Squarespace.com and I had never worked with Squarespace before but was able to pick it up pretty quickly and utilized Google when I had specific questions about capabilities and limitations. If I had been the person to purchase their domain and hosting I probably would not have chosen Squarespace, but I am really glad that I was given the opportunity to learn this platform and how to embed and code within it.
  • Before working on this site, I had never heard the term IDX before. IDX stands for Internet Data Exchange and it allows realtors to post their listings for customers to see. There are two kinds of IDX when people are referring to it - IDX (the feed) and IDX (the display). It took me a little while before I realized that the MLS provider was talking about a feed and not the display. We would have to go through a 3rd party service to display it. I did research on dozens of IDX providers before deciding on Buying Buddy, which fit my clients needs perfectly, and provided a Squarespace integration which meant I could get the site up faster than expected.
